Poland improves Baltic Sea surveillance

SSC and the Maritime Office in Gdynia, Poland, have signed a contract regarding upgrade of one maritime surveillance system. The system, which was developed by SSC, was installed in 1993 in one of the authority’s aircraft and will now be upgraded to the latest standard, MSS 6000. The upgrade is to be completed in early 2010.

The aircraft is used for Poland’s national sea and coast control but also for the surveillance of the Baltic Sea on behalf of the Helsinki Commission. Recently, SSC delivered a new system to Estonia, and this summer, the first of two systems will be delivered to the Finnish Border Guard. The new systems increase the capacity for surveillance of the Baltic Sea and facilitate the cooperation between the countries in this region. In the Helsinki Commission, the countries of the Baltic Sea region cooperate to protect the marine environment from all sorts of pollution.
